just a note

This is just a personal note. I usually reserve this blog for just my writing but I read this in Debi Alper's blog:

"It's almost as though people need permission to write by being told they're not wasting their time. As if creating worlds of our own and peopling them with a cast formed from our own imaginations could ever be a waste ..."

I live right there. I feel like I need permission to write and reassurance that its not just a waste of time. I don't know how to get from here to published. With the exception of a poem published in a magazine 16 years ago and a submission that was published in "Your Messages" I wonder often if there is purpose to my writing besides the babble.

It is reassuring to know that I'm not the only one who struggles with this and I appreciate those who have encouraged me to continue with it. You've no idea how often I've thought about walking away from it - and have for periods of time. Fortunately it always draws me back.

Thanks for the link.

It all comes back to the reasons why we write, Gina. Getting published should never be the only motivation. Apart from the odds being so weighted against new authors, it's negative to tie all your self-esteem into that one area over which you have no control.

Write cos you love it or cos you'd curl up and die if you didn't do it or cos you have words to share ...

These are the sorts of reasons to carry on. Now enjoy!
